The Art vs Science of being an injector
"The face is a three-dimensional moving unit, not an isolated photograph. This is why the advanced injector must hone an astute ability to observe casual microexpressions"
-Olson. Seminars in Plastic Surgery.
As injectors, we are first a technician and then an Artist. We are aspiring to a form of facial sculpting, that is a marriage of the patient's concerns and our own vision of their Ultimate selves. It's not enough to just learn where where the needle goes. Truly artful and talented injectors need to understand the science and anatomy of aging far more than any of the medical community. Our patients are the most precious canvasses. Make every brush stroke powerful. Take a step back from your patient and observe them as a whole person. Listen to what they talk about, take note of what they wear and ponder who they believe themselves to be. Observe every detail from the moment they walk in. Form a 'big picture' then over time, you will discover their details. Get inside their aesthetic, even if it differs from your own. Be an Artist by moving beyond yourself and revere the beauty in everything around you. Let form and balance be your guide, but not your master.
